Gary Brendel, PE has close to 4 decades of experience with GAI and specializes in the planning, scheduling, cost control, and coordination of multi-disciplinary design and construction projects at electric power generation facilities. He has managed numerous civil and environmental engineering projects involving design, permitting, construction quality assurance/quality control and closure of landfills, ash and wastewater ponds, coal yards, and water quality management improvements. In addition, Gary has also directed construction monitoring activities for new Flue Gas Desulfurization (FGD) scrubbers and Selective Catalytic Reactor installations, including construction of drilled shafts, micropiles and caisson foundations, steel fabrication, concrete testing, and soil compaction control. His environmental experience includes solid and residual waste disposal permits, National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System Water Quality Management permits, Erosion and Sediment Control permits, Construction Activity permits, and Building permits. For the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), Gary directed the preparation of 12 national state of practice manuals and technical reports on the disposal and utilization of Coal Combustion Residuals, including the EPRI Coal Ash Disposal Manual. He also chaired an ASTM International task group that produced three standards on the uses of coal ash and FGD material as structural fill. Gary has professional registrations in Kentucky, Maryland, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia.
