GAI Consultants helped deliver the Orlando Health Jewett Orthopedic Institute, a state-of-the-art medical facility in Downtown Orlando, Florida. Located at the corner of Lucerne Terrace and Columbia Street, the combined inpatient and outpatient facility is dedicated solely to the care of orthopedic patients. The project has earned a Southeast Regional Best Projects award from Engineering News Record (ENR), an Excellence in Construction award from Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) Central Florida, and a Golden Brick Award from the Downtown Orlando Partnership.

GAI provided planning & land use approvals, landscape architecture and civil engineering for the 2.5-acre site which includes hospital, medical office, and parking structure as redevelopment within the dense Orlando Health downtown campus. The landscape architecture included site design, streetscape design, and the feature drop-off and plaza space. The site design took its cues largely from the dynamic lines and movement in the architecture, representing a still animation of the body in motion. The plaza feature extends the compositional lines into the landscape in creating opportunities for seating and respite. The entry and drop-off plaza continues this theme with a tiered bioretention stormwater management system as a key feature to the entry experience. The civil engineering services included complex utility services, creative drainage/conveyance systems, and overhead-to-underground electric conversion on the urban streets.

The Orlando Health Jewett Orthopedic Institute brings together the two most respected orthopedic and sports medicine practices in Central Florida, linking the Jewett Orthopedic Clinic with Orlando Health, home to the region’s only level-one trauma centers for adults and children.
