Pennsylvania Turnpike Reconstruction Project – Cultural Resources Studies Overview
Bedford County, PA
In a series of cultural resources studies for a six-mile section of the Pennsylvania Turnpike, GAI’s team investigated and identified 13 archaeological sites, one of which was evaluated via Phase II testing for National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) eligibility. As a result, GAI successfully guided our client to change their design in order to avoid the site. Our historic architectural studies also identified 65 resources, including the Everett Iron Complex, an NRHP-eligible historic property. GAI’s studies and consultation found that the proposed work would not adversely impact this property.
