Charleston, WV—The GAI Consultants, Inc. (GAI) Landscape Architecture and Planning Group and fellow team members have recently been honored with awards for two West Virginia projects—Haddad Riverfront Park and the National Center for Youth Science Education. The awards, which were presented by the West Virginia Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA), were two of only five awards presented to firms around the state.
The Haddad Riverfront Park project received an Excellence Award from the West Virginia ASLA. The excellence award is the highest honor that can be awarded to a project, with only one project selected in each category annually, and determined by a unanimous vote of the jurors from all categories combined. GAI Consultants provided landscape architecture and master planning, public participation services, design, construction administration and engineering solutions for the renovation of the Haddad Riverfront Park, which is a popular concert, festival and leisure site in downtown Charleston. GAI was successful in meeting an aggressive 18-month planning, design, and construction schedule. The project has served as a catalyst for much of the downtown revitalization the city is currently experiencing. Silling Associates, a Charleston firm, served as the architectural sub consultant on the project.
The National Center for Youth Science Education Master Plan received a Merit Award from the West Virginia ASLA. GAI Consultants provided master planning and schematic design services to Perfido Weiskopf Wagstaff + Goettel (PWWG) for the proposed $50 million National Center for Youth Science Education property located in Davis, West Virginia. GAI was involved with initial programming and scope development for the project, landscape architecture and planning, as well as site analysis for the entire property. The project also recently won a 2011 Pennsylvania AIA Honor Award, and is currently in the fundraising phase.
