Jacksonville, FL—The Florida Transportation Builders’ Association (FTBA) presented its 2023 ‘Best in Construction’ award to two GAI Consultants, Inc. (GAI) project teams in recognition of their work on the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) District Two I-95/I-10 Operational Improvements Design-Build project and the City of Jacksonville Hart Bridge Expressway Ramps Realignment & Talleyrand Connector project, both in Duval County, FL. The two awards were accepted on August 4 by GAI Vice President Stephen Boylan, PE and Sr. Engineering Manager Bobby Jamieson IV, PE, PTOE during the FTBA Annual Convention in Boca Raton, FL.
“GAI is honored to accept Best in Construction awards from FTBA for the I-95/I-10 Operational Improvements Design-Build and Hart Bridge Expressway Ramps Realignment projects,” said Boylan. “Our effective teaming partnerships on each project enabled smooth and efficient processes from start to finish.”
GAI, in conjunction with Archer Western Construction and Eisman & Russo, Inc., received an FTBA Best in Construction award in the Major Bridge category for the FDOT District Two I-95/I-10 Interchange and Fuller Warren Bridge Widening Design-Build project. GAI served as lead designer on this $126 million project that modified ramp and lane configurations, resulting in improved traffic mobility at this major system-to-system interchange in downtown Jacksonville, FL. The project also included the widening of the Fuller Warren Bridge, which carries I-95 over the St. Johns River, to incorporate an additional travel lane and a new bicycle/pedestrian path. The design-build team developed several Alternative Technical Concepts for this project, which saved more than $10 million in construction costs. Ronald Hoogland, PE, served as GAI’s Senior Project Engineer.
GAI, in conjunction with J.B. Coxwell Contracting, Inc., also received an FTBA Best in Construction award in the LAP category for the Hart Bridge Expressway at Talleyrand Avenue Ramp Improvements project completed for the City of Jacksonville, FL. GAI provided construction engineering and inspection (CEI) services to the City of Jacksonville for the $29 million downtown project. A three-quarter-mile section of the bridge’s existing elevated on-ramps were replaced with ground-level approaches to accommodate the expansion of the sports complex near downtown. The project was completed in December, 2022. Andre Sutherland, PE, served as GAI’s Senior Project Engineer alongside Project Administrator Dewayne Osteen.
The annual FTBA Best in Construction awards highlight companies and individuals who have worked on innovative, complex, and impactful projects around the state.
