GAI Consultants’ Project Team Accepts FTBA Award for SR 600/US 92 Project

Jacksonville, FL—On August 5, the Design-Build Team of P&S Paving/Superior Construction (Prime Contractor Joint Venture) and GAI Consultants (GAI) (Prime Design Engineer), in partnership with the Florida Department of Transportation District Five, proudly accepted the Florida Transportation Builders’ Association (FTBA) 2016 Best in Construction Special Significance Award for the State Road (SR) 600/US 92 Pedestrian Improvements project in Volusia County, FL.

About the Project

  • GAI served as the Prime Engineer on this $17-million project located in Daytona Beach, Florida.
  • The project scope included upgrades to the Williamson Boulevard/SR 600 intersection, pedestrian signals, intelligent transportation systems, the enclosure of drainage conveyance, and amenity improvements throughout the 1.38-mile project limits.
  • A new 180-foot-long, 15-foot-wide pedestrian bridge was designed and constructed, opening for use in November 2015.
  • The project was completed under an accelerated schedule (420 days) in order to provide much needed vehicle and pedestrian safety and operational improvements to this corridor prior to the 2016 event season at the Daytona International Speedway.
  • This high-profile safety project changed the character of the Daytona International Speedway corridor by creating a unique gateway and pedestrian destination for the City of Daytona Beach and Speedway patrons.
  • Director of Engineering Ronald Hoogland, PE served as GAI’s Project Manager.

  • The award was presented to the project team at the FTBA Annual Convention on August 5 in Orlando, Florida.
  • The FTBA annually recognizes commendable construction performance of individual contractor firms.
  • Recognitions are intended to award contractors who have responsibly executed outstanding road and bridge construction projects throughout the State of Florida.
  • The FTBA Awards Committee selects winners based on specific categories and is comprised of employees with knowledgeable in all construction categories from the State Construction Office, Florida Department of Transportation.
