Project Team Accepts FTBA Award for Wonderwood Connector Project

Jacksonville, FL—On August 5, the project team of J.B. Coxwell Contracting, Inc. (Contractor) and GAI Consultants (GAI) (Design Engineer), in partnership with the Florida Department of Transportation District Two, was on hand to accept the Florida Transportation Builders’ Association (FTBA) 2016 Best in Construction Design-Build Award for the State Road (SR) 116 (Wonderwood Connector) project in Duval County, FL. GAI provided design, permitting, and utility coordination services on the $8 million design-build drainage improvements project.

About the Project

  • The project consisted of emergency drainage improvements and pavement settlement remediation along a 4.6-mile section of SR 116 (Wonderwood Connector).
  • Following the drainage repairs, the associated roadway pavement was reconstructed to address previous settlement issues and improve the safety and smoothness of the asphalt pavement.
  • The approaches to the Ginhouse Creek Bridge—which had significant pavement settlement—were repaired, including the design and reconstruction of the associated approach slabs, traffic railings, guardrail, and sidewalk.
