Highlights/Key Facts

About the Award

  • The award was presented to the project team at an awards breakfast on August 7, during the 2020 FTBA Annual Convention at the Hilton Orlando Bonnet Creek.
  • The annual FTBA Best in Construction awards highlight companies and individuals who worked on innovative, complex, and impactful projects around the state.

About the Project

  • GAI led the project design for roadway, structures, drainage, lighting, utility coordination, maintenance of traffic, signing and pavement markings.
  • The roadway work consisted of concrete pavement replacement and construction of five emergency stopping sites (ESS) in the median – three northbound and two southbound.
  • The ESS’s were constructed by shifting the northbound and southbound lanes onto the outside shoulders to complete construction safely behind temporary barrier walls.
  • The concrete pavement replacement was completed via nighttime and weekend lane closures, using high early strength concrete in order for lanes to reopen quickly to traffic.
