San Sebastian Bridge Project Wins FTBA Best in Construction Award

Jacksonville, FL – On August 9, 2013, GAI Consultants (GAI) and fellow team members received state-level recognition for the Florida Department of Transportation-District 2 San Sebastian River Bridge Replacement Project, winning the Florida Transportation Builders Association (FTBA) “Best in Construction”—Design Build award.

GAI served as prime consultant for the design and permitting of this new 760-foot-long, four-lane bridge structure along U.S. Route 1 over the San Sebastian River in historic St. Augustine, Fla. The GAI Team provided bridge aesthetics design, MSE wall design, oversight of extensive environmental and wetland permitting, and complex maintenance of traffic services. GAI Consultants also provided highway design, drainage design, and permitting services.

The award-winning Design-Build team included prime consultant GAI Consultants, Inc., and prime contractor Archer Western Contractors.

Finished in February 2013, this $13.5 million project had an aggressive 665-day design and construction schedule which required the project be completed prior to the City of St. Augustine’s 450th anniversary celebration.

“GAI is proud to be part of this collaboration with FDOT and Archer Western Contractors. Meeting the aggressive design and construction schedule with a no-excuses completion date required continuous and seamless coordination by the entire project team. I think the final product is something the entire community can be proud of for years to come.”
