Lake Eola Park Master Plan Honored with 2023 Design Award

ASLAOrlando, FL—The American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) Florida Chapter presented GAI Consultants’ (GAI) Community Solutions Group (CSG) project team with a 2023 Design Award in the Planning and Analysis Category for the Lake Eola Master Plan project in downtown Orlando, FL.

  • GAI Community Solutions Group’s Donald Wishart, PLA and Andrea Penuela, PLA were on hand to accept the award at the ASLA Florida Chapter Design Awards Gala on July 28, 2023, at the JW Marriott Miami Turnberry.
  • The ASLA Florida Design Awards Program encourages the advancement, expansion, and recognition of the Landscape Architecture profession by honoring projects that blend environmental and artistic principles that emphasize beauty, function, and sustainability.

About the Project

  • GAI’s Community Solutions Group completed a Master Plan for the renovation of Lake Eola Park in downtown Orlando, FL.
  • The project consisted of a thorough review of existing park facilities and activities within the iconic “Central Park” as well as extensive public engagement to develop the vision for Lake Eola Park’s future.
  • The renovation program details programming and design for current and future events, recreational use areas of all types, and fundamental reorganization of functional areas to better accommodate the growing needs of the community.
  • The plan also repositions the relationship of Lake Eola to urban ecology through new functional features designed to enhance water quality, biodiversity, and the environmental experience.
  • Finally, the Master Plan includes significant restoration or reimagination of existing architectural, landscape architectural, and adjacent streetscape elements.
