Victory Pointe Park Wins ASLA Florida Design Award

Orlando, FL—The American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) Florida Chapter presented GAI Consultants’ (GAI) Community Solutions Group project team with the organization’s 2019 Award of Honor for Victory Pointe Park, located in Clermont, FL.

Highlights/Key Facts

About the Award

  • The award was presented to members of GAI’s Community Solutions Group on July 12, 2019, at the Annual Design Gala during the ASLA Annual Conference & Expo held at the Loews Sapphire Falls Resort at Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida.
  • The ASLA FL Design Awards program encourages advancement and recognition of the Landscape Architecture profession by honoring projects that blend environmental and artistic principles.
  • GAI Community Solutions Group’s Donald Wishart, PLA, Landscape Architecture Director, and Frank Bellomo, PLA, Assistant Vice President, accepted the award on behalf of the project team.

About the Project

  • As part of the Downtown Master Plan process for the City of Clermont, Florida, GAI’s Community Solutions Group identified Victory Pointe Park as a key catalyst project, based on the city’s need for a new stormwater facility on the west side.
  • The new park receives stormwater from a significant portion of Clermont’s downtown streets and includes a series of cascading filter marsh treatment areas designed to reference native Florida environments—just part of a series of innovative stormwater strategies developed to help improve water quality within Lake Minneola and expand development opportunities in downtown Clermont.
  • Victory Pointe Park was opened to the public in late summer 2018.
  • In 2016, the Clermont Downtown and Waterfront Master Plan developed by GAI and the City of Clermont received an award in the Planning Studies category from the Florida Redevelopment Association.

“GAI is honored to accept this Award of Honor from the ASLA Florida Chapter for Victory Pointe Park. We were thrilled to be involved with this project for the City of Clermont. This project was a true collaboration from planning to design to construction and a re-envisioning of a conventional stormwater pond design to create a much more sustainable community open space amenity that provides LID strategies for the stormwater management, a new venue for Clermont’s major athletic events, a sustainable native wildlife habitat, and a signature address for adjacent future development.”
