Orlando Sentinel – Maitland’s new plan for its downtown strip is taking shape. Much of the design hinges on Independence Lane, a road that runs alongside city hall between Horatio and Packwood avenues.
A draft of Maitland’s downtown master plan, crafted by GAI Consultants Community Solutions Group honed in on a one-mile core. Shops would face Independence Lane, which would informally be called “Festival Street” as part of a $1.2 project, instead of U.S. 17-92.
“We’re really keen on extending Independence Lane all the way down to Lake Lily,” said Blake Drury, director of planning and urban design for GAI Consultants Community Solutions Group.
