Orlando Business Journal – More than a year after the Winn-Dixie shopping center on U.S. Highway 17-92 was razed, Maitland City Centre is laying the foundations of a new downtown district.
Orlando Business Journal previously reported on revitalization initiatives for three Central Florida communities — including Maitland — spearheaded by GAI Consultants Inc.’s Community Solutions Group. With input from residents, GAI had established three themes for creating a more vibrant downtown: walkability, a strong community center and utilizing existing cultural aspects. GAI also found that, while Maitland’s dispersement of residential and commercial developments prevented the formation of a traditional downtown, parcels near its City Hall are suited for the creation of a more centralized community environment.
