I-95 Express Lanes Design Build Phase 3C Overview
Broward County, FL
GAI served as a major design subconsultant on the Phase 3C segment of the I-95 Express Lanes Design‑Build project in Broward County, Florida (FDOT District Four). This vital component of South Florida’s Express Lanes Network completes the I‑95 Express Lanes system in the area by providing two express lanes in each direction, along with direct connections between I‑95 Express and I‑595. The purpose of these improvements was to enhance operations and provide motorists with a safer, smoother travel experience along this high‑volume corridor.
As part of the project scope, GAI was responsible for the design of key roadway elements, two bridges, and critical temporary retaining walls. Structural work included the widening design of a Category 2 three‑span continuous steel plate girder bridge with an approximately 65‑degree skew. GAI also designed the widening of all four sides of the 4,800‑ft‑long dual bridges over Pond Apple Slough, utilizing concrete piles and drilled shafts for the foundation systems. Additionally, GAI designed overhead truss sign structures attached to bridge piers, contributing to operational clarity and overall traveler safety.
