Colver Dam and Reservoir Design and Inspection Overview
Cambria County, PA
The Colver Dam and Reservoir are located in west central Pennsylvania and operated by the Cambria Township Water Authority. The Colver Reservoir provides drinking water to the township as well as cooling water to a nearby 110 MW co-generation power plant.
The dam is a 51-foot high, 102-foot-long earth embankment. GAI designed the dam and appurtenances to its current configuration when the dam was expanded vertically, increasing the height to provide additional reservoir storage for power plant use. GAI performed all geotechnical, structural, hydrologic, and hydraulic designs; prepared associated permit application documents; prepared the Emergency Action Plan (EAP); provided construction management services; monitored construction; and, in the years following construction, has performed annual inspections of the facility.
