With the goal of welcoming and providing entertainment for visitors and local residents, the City of St. Albans, West Virginia has recruited GAI’s Community Solutions Group to develop a master plan for a new riverfront park on the Coal River.

Planned for a now vacant and overgrown riverbank, the park will offer an amphitheater, large boat dock, kayak launches, and beach area. A multi-use facility that will house a snack bar and restrooms is also planned.

Landscape Architecture elements include informational signage for a traffic triangle and in plaza spaces, as well as streetscape improvements along the main thoroughfare to make the park a welcoming gateway to the city. Design challenges include limited flat space and developing for the project area’s relatively small footprint.
