Lake Eola Park Master Plan Overview
Orlando, FL
GAI’s Community Solutions Group (CSG) completed a Master Plan for the renovation of Lake Eola Park in downtown Orlando, Florida. The project consisted of a thorough review of existing park facilities and activities within the iconic “Central Park”. Analysis included the park’s uses within the context of the changing needs of downtown Orlando’s urban population, the role of Lake Eola Park within the larger region, as well as comparisons to other iconic parks throughout the U.S. The result is a highly detailed Conceptual Development Plan that covers all aspects for significant improvements to Lake Eola Park.
The renovation program includes programming and design for current and future events, recreational use areas of all types, and fundamental reorganization of functional areas to better accommodate the growing needs of the community. The plan also repositions the relationship of Lake Eola itself to urban ecology through new functional features designed to enhance water quality, biodiversity, and the environmental experience. Finally, the plan includes significant restoration or reimagination of existing architectural, landscape architectural, and adjacent streetscape elements. The master planning process included extensive public engagement to develop the vision for Lake Eola Park’s future. Subsequent early phase implementation steps are already underway.
