GAI provided professional design services for the rehabilitation of Stephens Park, a 3.2-acre neighborhood park in the Town of Brownsburg, Hendricks, County, Indiana. Located just 10 miles west of Indianapolis, Brownsburg is one of Indiana’s fastest growing communities. Resulting from a significant public involvement effort, the Town was able to secure a park district bond to implement the proposed improvements to Stephens Park—consisting of paved walking trails, playground areas, six pickleball courts, paved parking, year-round restrooms, picnic shelter, and a multipurpose greenspace. GAI was responsible for design of the stormwater infrastructure, utilizing green infrastructure techniques, where possible, in accordance with the park master plan, Town of Brownsburg’s Stormwater Management Ordinance and Hendricks County Stormwater Technical Standards Manual.

GAI’s stormwater design incorporated both detention and stormwater drainage components, due to the proposed increase of impervious surface area, changes to the existing ground elevations, and downstream sewer constraints. GAI utilized Interconnected Channel and Pond Routing Model (ICPR) Version 4 to analyze existing and proposed hydrology and hydraulics for the site. Required detention basin volumes were sized in ICPR, including two dry detention basins and one bioretention area. Water quality best management practices were also provided in the design to remove contaminants before entering the storm sewer. Also as part of the stormwater design, GAI prepared a hydraulic analysis report, stormwater operation and maintenance manual, construction plans, details, and specifications. GAI prepared a Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan for submission to the Hendricks County Soil Water Conservation District; as well as a Rule 5 permit application for submission to the Indiana Department of Environmental Management for review and approval.

The ribbon cutting ceremony for the newly transformed Stephens Park was held in spring 2021.
