When Orlando Health decided to move the Inpatient Rehabilitation practice from an aging off-site building into the new patient bed tower, mid-project, GAI’s Community Solutions Group led the way to envision, plan and design a space to expand their services outdoors. The resulting ORMC Rehabilitation Garden transformed a “back of house” landscaped area into a comfortable, convenient, high-functioning outdoor healing space. Patients of all abilities can plant and care for flowers and vegetables, practice walking on a variety of tactile surfaces, slopes, and stairs, exercise, or simply enjoy being outside. When not being utilized clinically for patients, the garden is open for use by staff and visitors, providing an escape from the stresses experienced inside the building.
