Tannehill Road over I-65 Superstructure Replacement

Tannehill Road over I-65 Superstructure Replacement Overview

Bartholomew County, IN

GAI provided survey, bridge design, roadway design, maintenance of traffic, and utility coordination to the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) Seymour District for the superstructure replacement of Tannehill Road Bridge (CR 650 N) over I-65 and approach roadway. This structure serves as a vital connection for the Taylorsville and Edinburgh area of Bartholomew County, Indiana. The GAI team performed value engineering to compare a two-span replacement using MSE walls with an option to retrofit the existing piers and keep the four-span configuration—this design was ultimately selected. GAI also verified a construction innovation that utilized saw cutting to remove the existing top portions of the pier caps requiring retrofit. Roadway approach work included tying in a nearby county road located close to the bridge ends. Throughout design, GAI tracked industry price fluctuations and kept the cost estimate current, helping make sure the project was awarded at the targeted letting.
