Orlando Sentinel – Kathy Carter, who manages office and industrial properties throughout Central Florida, said her tenants ask the same question so many times that she can almost anticipate it:
“Why am I paying sales tax to rent and operate the building?”
Florida stands alone as the only state charging a business-rent tax on rent and utility expenses. But new momentum appears to be building to undo the long-time government charge. Under pressure from Florida Realtors, the Florida Chamber and Enterprise Florida, Gov. Rick Scott proposed cutting the tax in recent years.
