Barboursville Park

Barboursville Park Overview

Cabell County, WV

GAI’s Community Solutions Group (CSG) provided master planning, landscape architecture, site/civil engineering, permitting, and construction administration services for the re-envisioning of Barboursville Park in the Village of Barboursville, West Virginia. Home to the U.S. Youth Soccer National Championship Series since 2015, the existing recreational complex was largely set up for soccer—attracting hundreds of youth teams as well as countless spectators to the Village and the region. However, in recent years, the Village had sought to expand and diversify use of the space. To address this need, the CSG team worked closely with local architects and Village staff to develop a master plan that included the addition of three synthetic turf fields striped for multiple sports within this high-profile park. While carefully considering enhancements to existing amenities, CSG’s master plan also included improved pedestrian circulation, new parking areas, shade structures, lighting, and stormwater infrastructure upgrades.

The re-envisioned Barboursville Park was opened in spring 2021. At 750 acres, the park now features soccer fields as well as three baseball fields, tennis courts, basketball courts, volleyball courts, Little League baseball fields, a youth football field, fishing lake and ponds, picnic areas, an amphitheater, walking trails, horse show ring, and an archery range.
