North Shore Riverfront Park

North Shore Riverfront Park Overview

Pittsburgh, PA

GAI, as a subconsultant provided civil engineering and permitting services for the development of North Shore Riverfront Park, a 4,000-linear-foot parcel of waterfront land stretching from the West End Bridge to the Fort Wayne Railroad Bridge in downtown Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Touted as a key destination for residents and tourists alike, the park links the city’s two sports stadiums, Heinz Field and PNC Park, and provides pedestrian access to urban green spaces, entertainment venues, restaurants, office buildings, and cultural events/amenities.

Designed to have an “old steel town” theme, while incorporating green infrastructure techniques, development of the park is taking place in multiple phases; features include boat docks, lawns, gardens, piers, water steps, a causeway, and a half-moon shaped pedestrian structure that extends into the river. GAI’s services have included hydrologic and hydraulic (H&H) river modeling, field survey, erosion control plans, utility design, permitting, geotechnical engineering, structural engineering, and cost estimating as well as the design for renovation of the existing war monument.
