GAI is performing preliminary and final design for this $16 million construction cost PennDOT District 4 0 design-bid-build project involving the roadway widening and replacement of four bridges and one culvert extension on Interstate 81 (I-81) in Dorrance Township, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania. The four structures carry I-81 northbound and southbound over SR 3007 at Exit 155, and I-81 northbound over SR 3010 and Big Wapwallopen Creek.

The structure spanning Big Wapwallopen Creek, a naturally reproducing trout stream, required extensive environmental coordination during design. Preliminary and final design included survey; alternative analysis; line and grade; design field view; safety review; maintenance and protection of traffic; signing and pavement marking; type, size, and location (TSL) plans, structure plans; erosion and sediment (E&S) pollution control; post construction stormwater management; National Pollution Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) and Joint Participation Agreement (JPA) environmental permitting; hydrologic and hydraulic analysis (H&H); geotechnical borings; geotechnical engineering; foundation reports; utility coordination; project management; and plan, specification and estimate (PS&E) development.

Construction is expected to begin in fall 2021.
