Lake Lorna Doone Park

Lake Lorna Doone Park Overview

Orlando, FL

GAI and its Community Solutions Group (CSG) provided design, contract documents, wayfinding, and construction observation services to revitalize this historic park in downtown Orlando, located adjacent to Camping World Stadium. The site is the location of the first integrated Little League baseball game played in the South, and all of the park’s facilities were completely renovated—including play fields, interactive play fountain, playgrounds, community garden, pavilions, lake overlooks and docks, restroom, and other amenities.

This $8 million renovation was funded via a public-private partnership by the National Football League (NFL) resulting from the 2017 Pro Bowl held at the stadium, as well as the City of Orlando and Florida Citrus Sports. The revitalization occurred around a significant amount of existing infrastructure; project phasing needed to consider City commitments related to tourist-driven events; and protection of the existing tree canopy was vital to the project’s success. GAI/CSG coordinated closely with the City and the contractor to provide solutions that minimized impacts to existing conditions and services. The scope of GAI/CSG’s professional services included site/civil engineering, landscape architecture, architecture and associated building engineering, structural engineering, electrical engineering, fountain design, irrigation, environmental services, permitting coordination, and construction observation. The 12-acre park, which opened in summer 2021, is now considered the “Jewel of the West Side” of downtown Orlando.
