GAI, in partnership with Hal Jones Contractor, was selected by the City of Jacksonville, Florida and utility JEA to provide engineering design services for the McCoy’s Creek Bridge Mitigation Improvements – King Street and Stockton Street Bridge Reconstruction project. The project involves the rehabilitation of two existing bridges spanning McCoy’s Creek at King Street and Stockton Street as part of a multi-phase infrastructure and flood mitigation project aimed at managing chronic flooding in the local area.

GAI’s services included replacements for the local roadway approaches, relocation of utilities, and increased connectivity to the Emerald Trail Shared Use Path. GAI’s utility design for the water, sewer, and relocations was completed concurrently with the roadway and bridge work. Both bridges were replaced with higher, wider structures to accommodate rising creek water; the railings from the existing structures were retained to honor the original bridges’ iconic design. Each bridge features a dedicated bike path and sidewalk linking to downtown, the St. Johns River, and other historic urban neighborhoods within the city. Each bridge also includes a landscaped greenway to help absorb and slow inflow of water to the creek. The bridge replacements required the closure and demolition of McCoys Creek Boulevard from Fitzgerald Street to Claude Street. The project also required coordination with other projects being designed concurrently for the restoration of McCoy’s Creek and Emerald Trail construction under this high-profile, $100M+ initiative.

The King Street Bridge opened in late 2025, and the Stockton Street Bridge opened in spring 2026.
