SR 75 (US 231) From South of Pipeline Road to North of Penny Road Overview
Bay County, FL
GAI designed this design-bid-build capacity improvement project on US 231 (SR 75) from north of Pipeline Road to north of Penny Road/Commerce Boulevard in Bay County, FL. A vital link between Panama City and I-10, as well as a hurricane evacuation route, this corridor includes major intersections with SR 390, CR 2321, Cherokee Heights Road, Titus Road, Star Avenue, and Commerce Boulevard. The purpose of the project is to increase capacity and safety by widening a 5.7-mile segment of US 231 from 4 lanes to 6 lanes, along with adding bicycle lanes and an approximately 5- to 6-ft-wide sidewalk.
GAI’s design improvements include the introduction of free-flowing northbound (at grade) and southbound (elevated) traffic on US 231; dedicated right- and left-turn lanes on US 231 to access SR 390 and CR 2321; a direct connection between SR 390 and CR 2321; a new interchange at the Titus Road/Star Avenue intersection; and a new bridge structure spanning Bayou George. The project scope also includes four new stormwater management ponds, requiring permitting from FDEP, USACE, FFWCC, and UWFWS.
