Stream and Wetland Mitigation Overview
Indiana County, PA
GAI assisted with permitting and construction for this stream and wetland mitigation project in Indiana County, Pennsylvania. Natural stream restoration and enhancement, as well as wetland creation, were proposed to mitigate impacts to existing wetlands and streams. The team designed and constructed riffles, bank stabilization structures, and adjacent floodplain wetlands, as well as a Rosgen C channel type, which included creating and accessing a floodplain and bankfull bench. Establishing a holistic ecosystem provides connectivity throughout the watershed while offering increased bedform diversity, microhabitats for aquatic organisms, and increased nutrient inputs once riparian vegetation is established.
