Virginia Solar Farm – Geotechnical Engineering Services

Virginia Solar Farm – Geotechnical Engineering Services Overview

Virginia

GAI completed a phase I and is performing a phase II geotechnical engineering investigation for a proposed solar site of up to 1,400 acres of photovoltaic solar panels. Services include pre-field investigation, subsurface exploration, field testing and laboratory testing, and engineering analysis followed by a formal geotechnical report. 67 borings are planned, totaling over 1,000 feet of soil sampled by either SPT or CPT methods. The project is 240MW using single-axis tracking solar panels.

In the first phase of the project, GAI drilled 18 soil test borings to depths of 15 to 45 feet. In the second phase, GAI is performing 25 additional soil test borings (SPT) and 24 cone penetration test (CPT) soundings.
