Engineers Week—February 18-24, 2018—celebrates how engineers make a difference in the world, and helps bring engineering to life for kids, educators, and parents.
Engineers Week naturally holds a special place for us at GAI Consultants. Besides spotlighting the important work we do, this year’s theme—“Inspiring Wonder”— makes us reflect on those special moments when an accomplished person, a standout engineering feat, or the colleagues we work alongside sparked us to achieve wondrous things. It reinforces that our love of engineering continues to inspire us as we go about our work.
We spoke to some GAI engineers about the events, interests, people, or things that inspired and continue to inspire them.
Emma specializes in water treatment engineering for a range of clients. One of the things that inspires Emma is the time she spends nurturing youngsters’ interest in engineering during open-house events by GAI client ALCOSAN, the Allegheny County Sanitary Authority.
“It’s always a lot of fun and a great time – and it feels good to help contribute towards our next generation of engineers.”
Among Gary’s inspirations is the work of Joseph Strauss, chief engineer of San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge.
“One of the things I love to do is ride across the Golden Gate Bridge … what an accomplishment … what a feat of engineering.”
