The oversight, input, and guidance of GAI’s Construction Engineering and Inspection (CEI) specialists are vital to help produce safe, high-quality projects that serve the public and meet regulatory requirements.
Our CEI specialists are involved in projects from beginning to end, working closely with clients, engineers of record, contractors, and utilities to provide oversight for all elements of the building process—and CEI team members are often cross-trained in multiple disciplines.
Here are some of the standout projects GAI’s CEI specialists have contributed to in Florida:
I-295 Express Lanes
GAI provided construction engineering and inspection services on this $89 million Florida Department of Transportation District Two project for the installation of two new tolled express lanes on the I-295 West Beltway from Buckman Bridge to I-95 in Jacksonville. Construction activities also included 530,000 square feet of noise walls, along with drainage, utilities, road and bridge widening, roadway lighting, overhead toll gantries, and signage.
I-95/I-295 North Interchange
GAI is providing construction engineering and inspection services on this $176 million Florida Department of Transportation District Two design-build project in Jacksonville. The project consists of major modifications to the I-95/I-295 North Interchange—one of the largest interchanges in Florida—which serves as the gateway to Northeast Florida and facilitates access to the Port of Jacksonville, downtown Jacksonville, and Jacksonville International Airport.
I-10/I-95 Interchange Reconstruction
GAI was responsible for contract administration on this 2011 award-winning project that provided congestion relief to the City’s downtown area. The “Big I” project required 17 bridges, 21 ramps, and 25 lane miles to be built through one of the busiest interchanges in Florida, and construction was completed six months ahead of schedule.
I-295 Interchange/Collins Road
GAI provided construction engineering and inspection (CEI) services for a complex urban design-build project for a new interchange. Using the Collector-Distribution (CD) concept for this project separated local traffic from through traffic, which relieved congestion while this heavily traveled corridor was under construction.
SR 429, Wekiva Parkway Segment 1B
GAI provided construction engineering inspection for 2.38 miles of the northern segment of the new limited access roadway (SR 429) from just north of Ponkan Road to a half mile north of Kelly Park Road. The construction project also included new interchange ramps to/from SR 429 north at the US 441 Connector Road and ramps to Kelly Park Road.
I-10/SR 8 Interchange at Hammond Boulevard
GAI provided construction engineering and inspection services for this $25 million Florida Department of Transportation District Two capacity improvement project at the I-10/Hammond Boulevard (Marietta) Interchange in Jacksonville. The project consists of a new interchange at Hammond Blvd. with on- and off-ramps to and from I-10; a new overpass spanning I-10 that connects Hammond Blvd. with Devoe St. to the north of the project; and the widening of Hammond Blvd. from two to four lanes, along with additional turn lanes, sidewalk, and bicycle lanes.
Coastline Drive and Liberty Street
Helping rebuild vital roadways and enhance the Jacksonville riverfront, GAI is providing construction engineering and inspection services to the City of Jacksonville on this $24.7 million design-build project.
Howell Drive over Ribault River Bridge Replacement
GAI is providing construction engineering and inspection services for the $11 million replacement of the Howell Drive Bridge spanning the Ribault River in Duval County, Florida. The original structure, built in 1964, provided north-south vehicular and pedestrian access to area homes, neighborhoods, and three schools; therefore, the project required significant coordination with residents and school administrators during all phases of construction.
Hart Bridge Expressway Ramps Realignment & Talleyrand Connector
The City of Jacksonville selected GAI to perform construction engineering and inspection (CEI) services on the Hart Bridge Expressway Ramps Realignment & Talleyrand Connector project in downtown Jacksonville. A three-quarter-mile section of the bridge’s existing elevated on-ramps are being replaced with ground-level approaches to accommodate the expansion of the sports complex near downtown.
I-95 at Airport Road Interchange Improvements
GAI is providing construction engineering and inspection services for this $11 million FDOT District Two improvement project at the interchange of I 95 and Airport Road, and on Airport Center Drive to west of Duval Road in Jacksonville, Florida. As the project area is located along the main thoroughfare leading to Jacksonville International Airport and the River City Mall, it required strict adherence to lane closure timeframes as well as ensuring that traffic detection and signals were operational at all times.
