138 kV Transmission Line Design

138 kV Transmission Line Design Overview

West Virginia

Mountainous rocky terrain along a 7-mile electric transmission line project to connect two new substations presented challenges such as access issues for construction equipment and necessitated the use of helicopters to deliver and set GAI’s custom designed steel poles on new drilled shaft foundations Steel lattice towers were also utilized and placed on grillage foundations. Despite the challenges, construction was completed, and the line was energized in less than 18 months. Environmental and archaeological assessments were reviewed to avoid potential project obstacles, and GAI also conducted studies to verify that endangered species would not be affected by the project. GAI performed a geotechnical evaluation for the line and monitored all foundation construction.
