138 kV Transmission Line Design

138 kV Transmission Line Design Overview

West Virginia

Hazardous terrain along a 7-mile electric transmission line project to connect two new substations presented challenges and necessitated the use of helicopter cranes to deliver and set GAI’s custom designed steel poles. Nevertheless, construction was completed and the line energized in less than 18 months. GAI used PLS-CADD to develop the route, spot the structures, and determine line tensions and electrical clearances. Environmental and archaeological assessments were reviewed to avoid potential project obstacles and GAI also conducted studies to verify that endangered species would not be affected by the project.
