Residential Substation Expansion Overview
Western Pennsylvania
GAI provided design services to expand a 69kV substation by over 50% in a residential neighborhood. The project involved installing a new high side bus, a new transmission line auto-sectionalizing scheme with motor-operated disconnect switches and advanced relaying, new transmission dead ends and a full RTU upgrade. GAI also designed for a new ground grid, lightning protection and station lighting for the expanded area. In addition to design, GAI coordinated the construction sequencing between substation, transmission and distribution engineering, and field personnel. GAI specified and ordered all material for the project.
