GAI Consultants’ Community Solutions Group provided design, planning and analysis for creating signature gateway experiences for Orange County’s key interchanges connecting a 4-mile stretch of I-4 Beyond the Ultimate to the region’s main tourist districts, the Orange County Convention Center and Orlando International Airport. Early roadway plans for the interchanges at Sand Lake Rd, SR 528, Central Florida Parkway & Daryl Carter Parkway were studied for opportunities for creating aesthetic viewsheds and iconic elements to enhance visitor experience at the gateways, for enhancing pedestrian and cycling safety and experience and for implementing low-impact development strategies to conserve water and energy to align with the Orange County Sustainability Plan. The analysis of the mainline, interchanges and cross streets culminated in this truly iconic signature gateway design treatment for the I-4 corridor and the region.
