SR 3020, Section 250, over Pennsylvania Turnpike (Freedom Road)

Cranberry, Pennsylvania

GAI, as a consultant to Beech Construction, Inc., completed a value engineering design for a two-span bridge replacement project with oversight and ownership by PennDOT District 10-0. The value engineering concept continued to use Accelerated Bridge Construction (ABC) techniques to minimize downtime for the underlying Pennsylvania Turnpike.


Wayne County Landslide Repairs

Wayne County, Pennsylvania

GAI provided preliminary design and design management services during construction to PennDOT District 4-0 for the design-build of a retaining wall along the eastern side of SR 0191 between the roadway and the Delaware River. A slope along the existing, two-lane roadway had caused substantial differential cracking in the pavement creating a potentially hazardous driving situation for motorists.


SR 0068 Corridor Widening and Intersection Upgrades

Butler County, Pennsylvania

GAI was commissioned by PennDOT District 10-0 to provide preliminary design, final design, and construction consultation for the widening of a 2-mile segment of SR 0068 in Butler County from two lanes to three lanes. The project also involves assessment of four signalized intersections and one unsignalized intersection within the corridor to determine future capacity and safety improvements.


PennDOT District 12-0 Open-End Construction Inspection Services

Various Counties, Pennsylvania

GAI is partnering with PennDOT Engineering District 12-0 to provide supplementary construction inspection staff under the Department’s Inspector-In-Charge as part of a 5-year, $1.5 million Open-End services agreement. The agreement addresses various road and bridge construction projects located in District 12-0, consisting of Fayette, Greene, Washington, and Westmoreland counties.


Stoops Ferry Road (SR 0051) over Flaugherty Run Bridge Replacement

Allegheny County, Pennsylvania

This $3.5 million PennDOT District 11-0 bridge replacement project—consisting of preliminary design, final design, and construction services—involved the removal of an existing four-sided concrete rigid frame structure. GAI incorporated into the design the addition of a third (center two-way, left-turn) lane on the structure that ties into the existing three-lane section (truck climbing lane) on SR 0051.


Interstate 81, Section D52 Replacement of Four Bridges

Luzerne County, Pennsylvania

Existing Structure

GAI is performing preliminary and final design for this $16 million construction cost PennDOT District 4 0 design-bid-build project involving the roadway widening and replacement of four bridges and one culvert extension. The four structures carry I-81 northbound and southbound over SR 3007 at Exit 155, and I-81 northbound over SR 3010 and Big Wapwallopen Creek.


Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission Open End Agreement

Various Counties, Pennsylvania

Under a 4-year, Open End Agreement, GAI is providing engineering design services for the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission (PTC). Work orders under this agreement began in spring 2019; projects to date include a range of work for Washington, Westmoreland, Lawrence, and Beaver counties.


SR 0980-B02 over Chartiers Creek

Washington County, Pennsylvania

GAI completed engineering services for Beech Construction, Inc. (BCI) on this $2.6 million design-build project for PennDOT District 12-0 to replace a truss bridge in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania. The project involved the design of full-height cantilever abutments and a shallow steel superstructure, as well as extensive utility coordination with electric, cable, water, and sanitary utility owners.


Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission Southern Beltway

Allegheny & Washington Counties, Pennsylvania

On a high-profile, $800 million project, GAI as subconsultant is providing construction engineering and inspection (CEI) and oversight to Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission (PTC) for the new Southern Beltway (SR 576) roadway construction project in Washington and Allegheny Counties.
